established in 1998

We bought the ranch in 1998 because we realized our chickens were not welcome in the residential neighborhood where we lived at the time. Our neighbors had no sense of humor when our chickens flew the coop and ate all their newly planted ornamental begonias. We knew then that we were headed for a different experience. And that’s exactly what we got when we bought Twentynine Oaks.

That’s a tongue-in-cheek description of what really happened and is only one part of the whole picture. California has some of the nation’s most beautiful scenery, gorgeous beaches, wonderful clean parks and fabulous weather. We wanted to live in a place where all that could be experienced and enjoyed for many years into the future. We wanted our children to grow up healthy and clean with the knowledge of how to grow their own food, raise their own meat, and build and maintain a place to live. This is something we believe everyone should know how to do. We wanted to preserve a place where folks can come to experience a more natural alternative to the consumerist lifestyle so common in our society today. To that end we have religiously avoided pesticides, weed killers and harsh cleaning agents. We’ve under-landscaped, removed our grass in favor of a dry garden, and, of course, zealously maintained the ancient oaks that have survived on this land for a lot longer than we’ve been here. We tread lightly, enjoy our animals, eat clean and foster a sense of wonder for the common things.

We have plans to continue to innovate and upgrade the property in a mindful and responsible manner, and to showcase the newest and freshest ideas and options for your home and gardens. We recently installed solar panels on the roof of the ranch house, built a drip irrigation system, enlarged our chicken coop and switched to low voltage outdoor lighting. We plan to put a grey water system in place and turn our hot tub into a trout pond where we can harvest fresh fish for our table.

And lastly, we want you to know you are always welcome to come out and ride with us!
